Newt and Hiccup first met and grew to be friends over a mutual love of creatures and the wild. As two of the Mirrorbound with large animal companions, who happened to get along, it made a certain sense, and from there, everything was history. They grew closer over time and tribulations; their friendship was natural and easy, and when Hiccup began to suffer for lack of a Bond, he and Newt agreed that it simply made sense for them. That magical connection entwined their lives for good - Newt is Hiccup's closest friend in Aefenglom, his true north, and is the one he goes to when he's distressed or conflicted. So too is Newt the first one he thinks of when he wants to share good news. The more time they spend together, the more Hiccup's feelings for the wizard deepen. In early February, after months of dancing around what was growing between them, Hiccup and Newt were finally honest about their feelings and situations, and started dating.
FAMILIARS
Alpha Night Fury. ★
Toothless is Hiccup's best friend and closest confidante from home, come through the mirror with him on a new adventure. He and Hiccup, despite being two different species, share a bond that was immediately recognized by the world of Talam, and it was cemented with a familiar Bonding. Now, Toothless also helps Hiccup to regulate his magic as well as everything else.
Terrible Terror. ★
Sharpshot is a Terrible Terror Hiccup trained when he was 16, who grew up to be a loyal and dependable dragon. Though never as close to him as Toothless, Sharpshot adores his trainer regardless, and is capable of following voice commands and carrying mail. In Aefenglom, he arrived through Hiccup's mirror by himself, and soon was familiar Bonded as well, to help Hiccup regulate his magic. Sharpshot is also particularly fond of Percy, and when he isn't with Hiccup or at home, can usually be found with the other denizen of the forge.
ALMOST-FAMILY

Percy is practically a brother now, and someone that he'd be comfortable looking to in a time of crisis. He did, in fact, in the Dorchacht dream, where Percy's insistence that Hiccup could keep his end of the shield up bought them and some Monster protesters more time by holding off the guards. His partner in running the forge and taking care of people's commissions, Hiccup is endlessly fascinated by the things Percy knows how to build, and wants to learn from him as much as he wants to share all his own projects. They've built two ballistas together, are often planning new joint projects, and share custody of Sharpshot at this point, the little dragon having grown very fond of Percy (Hiccup has as well). The only thing that frustrates Hiccup is Percy's stubbornness about finding a bond - he worries for his friend, and has taken on the role of 'annoying little brother' trying to set him up with someone nice. Which, predictably, went disastrously. Still, despite annoying each other on the reg, they're also protective of each other. Sometimes family isn't blood, but who you wind up next to.

His Bonded boyfriend's brother, Hiccup is both a little awed by and a little awkward around Theseus, wanting to ensure his approval. Even before he started dating Newt, he thought the man competent and kind, and now he's almost family through their respective connections to Newt. Hiccup was saddened when he left Aefenglom the first time, at a less-than-ideal time, through no fault of his own, and was quite shocked when he showed up again. He's happy though, almost as glad to have Theseus back as Newt is, despite the awkward way they all reunited.

Hiccup's dad. Lex is one of his oldest friends in Aefenglom, a fellow from the first group of Mirrorbound to arrive, and they hit it off right away talking about creatures and pets. Hiccup goes to her for advice sometimes, and she keeps him from being stupid of her own volition other times. She scolds just like his father sometimes and it's both slightly disconcerting and slightly comforting. They look out for each other when they can; Hiccup took care of Dogmeat while Lex was being held captive by the Rathmores, Lex went out to the forge in a blizzard to fetch Hiccup back to the safety of the Bright Wall. She's tough as nails and always warm with him, and he appreciates her presence in his life and as his friend.

Caster is a friend, if not one that Hiccup knows well yet. They met at probably the worst time for everyone - during the Rathmore incident, Caster was held captive along with Newt, but Caster was one of the lucky few to escape - carrying precious (to Hiccup) cargo and news. He brought Pickett, Newt's bowtruckle, to Hiccup despite his own injuries dragging him down, and he also brought Hiccup hope that they would be able to save everyone, especially his Bonded. Later, he offered some valuable relationship advice to Hiccup, though Hiccup was anonymous at the time. They may not know each other very well yet, but Hiccup feels like he owes this man a great debt.

Keith was Hiccup's first real friend in Aefenglom. They arrived in that same first group, and both had a distaste for the method by which housing was given to the Mirrorbound - ejecting some wealthy natives from their houses and relocating them, to give the Haven to the newcomers. Because of this, they set their housing sights elsewhere. Together, they fixed up an abandoned shack out past the wall and made it into a home, named Wilders' Edge, and Keith helped him build the forge. Hiccup was broken up about it when Keith disappeared, presumably gone back home through his mirror, and eventually couldn't stand to live in their empty house by himself anymore.

Tony Stark was a fast friend. Always willing to offer his own brand of advice, Hiccup trusted him enough to talk to him in person about his relationship troubles. Tony was a staple at the forge and Hiccup was always interested in what he was building. His knowledge of modern technology was fascinating to the viking, and when Tony stopped coming around, no doubt both Hiccup and Percy missed their fellow forge club member.

Aziraphale always seemed like an endlessly kind man. Hiccup enjoyed talking to him about anything, but especially books and stories. He gave a donation in the beginning to help ensure A Z Fell & Co would be stocked with books, and even left a book there of his own - a book of stories of home, a gift to the angel. Even though Aziraphale is gone, he likes passing by the shop sometimes just to see how it's doing and remember the nice man who wanted to bring knowledge to the city.
